LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL

We currently provide more than 250 courses, over 40 extra-curricular activities and 25 varsity sports. We are home to more than 2,400 students who will become the leaders of tomorrow. Ninth-graders Julia Bray of Gahanna Lincoln High School and Ashton Cofer of Columbus Academy just won two prizes from the U.S. Navy for their process that converts Styrofoam to activated carbon, which can purify water. It’s an ingenious way to recycle Styrofoam, which clogs landfills because it’s not easy to recycle, and also perhaps to supply water to dry parts of the world.
The most recent Gordian knot that Julia Bray, Ashton Cofer and Luke Clay, all 14, have worked to untangle is what to do about the billions of pounds of Styrofoam thrown away each year.
